Yakima, WA – In October, The Warehouse Theatre Company received the news that the theatre space we rented from Allied Arts at 5000 West Lincoln Avenue would be closed until further notice due to structural integrity concerns. Those structural issues remain unchanged.
Thanks to friends Tony and Amy Akin at Akin Center Theatre, we quickly adjusted to become a “nomadic” theatre company performing A Christmas Carol, Harvey, and the upcoming A Few Good Men in the intimate theatre. However, we needed to find a space that would meet our needs to produce a full schedule of plays and musicals performed throughout the year.
We are pleased to announce that the full 2014 –’15 WTC season will be produced at one location - 10 E Washington Ave. The WTC was invited into this space – ironically, another warehouse – by generous friends and WTC participants, Bob and Vicki Isaak. Formerly converted to facilitate church services, the space offers wonderful possibilities for the WTC! With easy access from S. 1st Street, Washington Avenue and Interstate 82, this location will provide ample parking and a comfortable setting for our season of plays.
In the coming months, we’ll be working to convert the 10 East Washington space to fully meet the needs of our patrons and our company. As with any move and remodel, there is much work ahead of us. But, the WTC is filled with creative people and we welcome the creative challenges presented by the move.
The fate of the building at 5000 W. Lincoln remains uncertain at this time. However, the Warehouse Theatre Company intends to explore options and the possibility of mounting a capital campaign to save and redesign that building to serve solely as a theatre performance space. We are actively seeking the right person or persons to lead and manage the campaign.
In the meantime, we will open the new building with our 2014-2015 Season beginning with the summer musical Into the Woods in August. Production titles and dates for the remaining shows in our 2014-2015 season of plays will be released in early May.
